This week you will be getting to know your classmates as well as exploring everything we already know about solar energy.

Activity
One
Welcome to this unit! Over the next 4 weeks you will be learning about solar energy with other students from across Queensland. Introduce yourself to the rest of the class by filming a short video about yourself. You should include:
-Your name
-Where you are from
-What you enjoy doing on the weekends
-What you enjoy about science
-What you hope to achieve from this online course

Once you have filmed your video, head over to the class padlet and post your video under the ‘Week 1: Introduce yourself’ heading to share it with your peers.

Before the end of the week, comment on one of your peers videos with a question about themselves. Don’t forget to reply to your peers’ questions.

Activity Two
Whole Class Live Collaborate
At 10 am on Tuesday the class will collaboratively discuss and brainstorm all the things we know about solar energy.
We will be discussing:

What is solar energy?

How do we collect and transfer solar energy to power everyday objects?

Three
Solar Powered Objects
Solar powered objects: Explore your house and local community and take photos of all the objects that you can find that are powered by solar energy. With these photos, create a collage on Microsoft Word. Upload your collage on the class padlet under the ‘Week 1: Solar powered objects’ heading to share with the rest of your classmates. Comment on your peers’ posts to let know them one solar powered object that you had in your local community that they did not have in theirs.
